Sushi Chef
Omakase Room - DC is seeking an experienced Sushi Chef to join our intimate team in Washington-DC. A successful chef is someone who is passionate about sushi, sake, Japanese culture, and philosophy, and more importantly, one that can create a positive and impressionable guest experience. The ability to speak in Japanese is preferred!
Job Summary
The Sushi Chef is responsible for executing sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and omakase courses with exacting consistency, technical precision, and respect for product. This role requires strong knife skills, deep product awareness, and the ability to perform calmly and professionally in a high-touch, guest-facing omakase environment.
Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years of chef experience in fine dining, preferably in Japanese or omakase/tasting-menu settings
Strong knowledge of sushi and Japanese culinary traditions
Ability to time service seamlessly with chef pacing and multi-course menus
Fluent in English; Japanese language skills are a strong plus
Polished personal presentation with professional communication skills
Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for long periods, and lift up to 30 lbs
Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must be eligible to work in the United States
